Opportunity: Publisher Mentor Scheme

Categories:

The Society of Young publishers has opened its mentorship scheme for 2025. The mentorship scheme is a fantastic opportunity to receive personalised and structured career guidance from publishing experts, learn more about the industry, and work on the key skills needed to progress within it! The scheme is open to anyone with less than 10 years’ experience in the publishing industry (including those trying to break into the industry, or career changers) and we  encourage applications from underrepresented groups. To note, the scheme is open to SYP members and non-members alike.

This year, we also have mentors specialising in academic publishing, so anyone interested in this side of publishing is strongly encouraged to apply. Job titles held by our mentors this year include Senior Rights Manager, Production Editor and Publicist.

SYP’s mentorship scheme involves:

  • An official mentoring period of 6 months
  • A minimum of 4 formal one-on-one virtual meetings with the mentor
  • A virtual social event to meet other mentors and mentees of the UK-wide programme

Past mentees have said:

“I was able to prep some applications materials and consider career options and what it would be like in the industry. It was very helpful and I think I learned a lot.”

“Fantastic. I learnt a lot about the industry and it was great to have this opportunity. Thank you!”

More information about the scheme can be found here on the SYP website: Mentorship FAQs – The Society of Young Publishers
