My poetry has appeared in the Acumen, Tupelo Quarterly, Poetry London, Wildness, Tower Poetry and has been commissioned by the New Creatives scheme. The poems examine the complexities surrounding the British-Pakistani experience. Khamoshi (2022) is my debut collection of poems printed by Verve Poetry Press which has been highly commended in the Forward Book of Poetry 2023.
My PhD focused on the resistive poetics of the Fourth Space as outlined in Threads (2018) by writers Sandeep Parmar, Nisha Ramayya, and Bhanu Kapil. I conceive of the Fourth Space as an alternate space proposed for the writer of colour to rise above fixed binaries of self and other in the lyric and to refute the divide between the two prominent writing scenes of mainstream and avant-garde, giving rise to an alternate scene of critical and creative belonging. I interviewed six contemporary Muslim, South-Asian poets and captured their poetics alongside my own creative explorations creating a dialogue in the Fourth Space.
During my studies here at Salford, I have been interested in thinking about the ways in which innovation can lead conversations, ideas, and creative possibilities for bodies that are fixed in both political and social discourses. I now teach poetry for The Northern Writing School at Level 4.
