Work in Publishing Week is taking place from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd November this year.

This is a national campaign run by the publishers association to inspire people to consider a career in publishing. It is a series of includes events and activities across social media. To engage with Publishing Week and enter public events online where you can learn more about careers in publishing, make sure you are fully networked on social media and try some of the planned activities below.

Activities in Publishing Week:     

  • Provide practical support and guidance for those looking to enter the industry including CV and interview tips;
  • Showcase the breadth of career opportunities in publishing, from editorial to production, through case studies and job profiles;
  • Champion industry professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds through Q&As with professionals at all levels of the publishing business;
  • Challenge common myths and assumptions about the publishing industry (e.g. that a ‘creative’ career isn’t a secure one)

Planned activity

  • Bloomsbury has a week of content planned including interviews and information about the different roles available in publishing. You will be able to find this on their X (@Bloomsbury_News) and LinkedIn.
  • Hachette will be running a campaign to demystify publishing on their social channels throughout Work in Publishing Week. You’ll be able to find this mostly on their LinkedIn.
  • Nosy Crow will be sharing their staff’s careers stories on their social channels, primarily TikTok (@nosycrowofficial) and LinkedIn, and their website.
  • HarperCollins will be sharing content across their social channels with a focus on giving a behind the scenes look at ‘life in publishing’ on their TikTok (@harpercollinsuk).
  • Penguin Random House will be sharing practical tips from their recruitment team on LinkedIn and some ‘day in the life’ content for different roles in publishing across their social channels.
  • Cassava Republic Press will be sharing content across their social channels including X (@cassavarepublic) and Instagram (@cassavarepublicpress).
  • Bookcareers is hosting a job club meeting on Thursday 21 November at 18:30 GMT. Everyone is welcome and there will be discussing careers in publishing, and answering frequently asked questions live. Sign up here.
