Portrait of Joey Frances

I’m a poet, poetry organiser & teacher based in Manchester.

I’ve co-organised the experimental poetry reading series Peter Barlow’s Cigarette in Manchester since 2015, & the radical poetry festival Poetry Emergency in 2018 & 2019; I previously co-organised exhibitions, workshops, & made zines as a member of the multi-disciplinary art collective Generic Greeting. I am on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of British and Irish Innovative Poetics.

In my writing, research, organising and teaching: I am committed to the politically radical work and thinking of the experimental poetic traditions; I take poetry as a shared, collective activity, & am interested in both textual practices & material practices of organising, production & distribution which emphasise this collective aspect, the reading series, the reading group, the DIY zine or pamphlet, etc; more recently also ecological and anti-pastoral poetics, as it intersects with these questions of collectivity and enclosure.

My publications include one full poetry collection a l’instar de (Knives Forks and Spoons, 2016), & five pamphlets, of poems and occasional hybrid prose, which can all be read at: https://pxxtry.com/
