English Language expert Dr Hazel Price talked to The Guardian this week about the rise of therapy speak in contemporary culture. In the article, Hazel interprets the rise of therapy-speak in today’s culture and suggests that it is used as a legitimizing strategy. “I think we feel that if we have a specialist term for something that it legitimizes it. We tend to use expert language because it somehow legitimizes something that actually isn’t rooted in any kind of rigorous evidence.”
