Before working at universities I was a journalist across a range of broadcast, online and print media outlets including Sky News, the BBC and others. I also established and edited the award-winning hyperlocal journalism website, Saddleworth News.
My first academic book, Reporting the Courts, is based partly on my PhD research into how public institutions are scrutinised during a time of dramatic change in the journalism industry. It will be published by Routledge in 2025.
I am the Director of Journalism, Politics and Contemporary History at The University of Salford.
