University of Salford Film Production graduate Ryan Johnson won the student RTS Award for Best Drama Screenwriter Craft Award at the North West Student Royal Television Society Awards 2024
“Writing this film was very cathartic for me, a semi-autobiographical story of a young working class queer kid raised by his grandparents, thrust into a world of love, death and lime dresses. I wanted to tell a tale of an experience who don’t often see on screen, and leave an audience feeling uplifted and hopeful. Winning this award is one of my proudest achievements and felt like the industry is moving in the right direction, where queer working class stories deserve to be told and not only that, but they are revered for it. In doing so I created the representation I wish I had growing up.”
